The distinctive St. Brigid’s Cross design, made from woven rushes, is thought to keep evil, fire and hunger from the homes in which it is displayed. It has been a strong tradition in Ireland to make the cross on the 1st of February to hang in the home.
There are many varying designs of the cross made in different parts of the country. This tutorial focuses on the most basic cross which is the one we tend to be most familiar with.
