Mass to remember road traffic victims

A special Mass to remember road traffic victims in Ireland and around the world is to be held at Knock Shrine on Sunday, November 15.

The third Sunday in November has been set aside in many European countries since 2006 as a special Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The Mass at 12 noon in Our Lady’s Basilica, Knock, will mark the day in Mayo and will also honour the county’s emergency services workers, who play such a crucial role in responding to road traffic incidents on our roads.

Every day, some 3,000 lives are lost on roads around the world and a further 10,000 people are injured.

The Mass on Sunday will remember all of those lives lost and those who have been injured.

Anyone affected by road traffic loss of life or injury, emergency services workers and all members of the public are invited to come to the Mass and mark the day.

The Day of Remembrance in Mayo is supported by Mayo County Council, the Ambulance Service, Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority.
