His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Francis Duffy, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, as the new Archbishop of Tuam. The news of this appointment was made public this morning at 11am Irish time (12pm in the Vatican).
This morning, Archbishop-elect, Francis Duffy concelebrated Mass in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Tuam, with His Excellency Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland; and Archbishop Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam.
Fr Richard Gibbons, PP and Rector of Knock Shrine, together with the Parish of Knock would like to extend a warm welcome to Bishop Francis Duffy and wish him well in his new role as Archbishop of Tuam.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish heartfelt thanks to his predecessor, Archbishop Michael Neary who, as the Custodian of Knock Shrine, has been a steadfast presence in my ministry, a pillar of wisdom, support, and generosity.
As Rector of Knock Shrine, I have been so fortunate to have been blessed with his guidance and insights as a role model and as a friend. Knock Shrine holds a very special place in his heart, and he has always served the Shrine with great devotion and dedication.
I would like to thank him for his leadership and valued insights which continue to guide me each day.
I wish to take this opportunity to wish him a long and happy retirement and every blessing for the future.
Fr Richard Gibbons,
PP and Rector of Knock Shrine
