As we celebrate the Feast day of  St. Brigid, one of our three national patron saints,  the Flame of St. Brigid present at Knock Shrine on Saturday, February 1st, courtesy of the Brigidine Sisters at Solas Bhríde, Kildare.

 

 

Programme Outline

 

 

 

11am – Welcome And Introduction

This will now take place in the Apparition Chapel

 

11.10am – Guided Prayer in the Apparition Chapel

Please note that the contemplative walk through the grounds will not now take place. The Creation Walk is closed due to storm damage

 

12.00pm – Celebration of The Eucharist – Knock Parish Church

 

Global One Minute Pause for Peace

 

Join us in a global Pause for Peace. Time: 12.00 local time – St. Brigid’s day, February 1st.

The Pause for Peace movement invites people from around the world to stop and pause for 1 minute’s silence/reflection at 12 o’clock local time on St. Brigid’s day, February 1st.

Inspired by Brigid, a woman of peace, we invite you and people around the world to join with us for 1 minute’s silence/reflection and build a spirit of global solidarity for peace.

 

Blessing of those named after St. Brigid 

We extend a special welcome to all those who are named in honour of St. Brigid. A blessing will take place during the celebration of the Mass

 

 

From 12.45pm – Lunch, St. John’s Rest and Care

Please bring your own packed lunch.  Tea & Coffee available

 

 

2pm – Exploration of Brigidine Sprituality, Knock Guided Prayer Centre

 

In 1807 , Daniel Delany, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin Ireland, invited six women to form a religious community in Tullow, Co Carlow on the first of February.  He named them the Sisters of Saint Brigid, after the great 5th century Saint of Kildare.  Bishop Delany’s legacy focused on: Priority for the gospel message of love; Eucharistic spirituality; The spirit of strength and kindliness and an expansive vision of education. From the beginning, Brigid’s ministry was associated with deeds of hospitality and compassion, and down through the centuries St Brigid has become a wisdom figure to the Irish people. She is known and honoured as Mary of the Gael. Brigid is known as : Woman of hospitality; Woman of the hearth; Woman of Justice; Woman of Peace and Woman of the Earth.

 

3pm – Closing Prayer –  Concluding at 3.30pm

 

    

St. Brigid’s Cross Making will take place in St. Johns Welcome Centre from 11m to 3pm

Pilgrims are  also invited to bring with them their own St. Brigid’s Crosses for blessing on the day
