The story of the evening of the Apparition itself is told from the perspective of the people of the village, who were busy going about the work of the harvest time of year and features rarely seen archive photographs of some of the Witnesses, courtesy of the Knock Museum collection.
Key events in the Shrine’s history, including two Papal visits – Pope John Paul II in 1979 and Pope Francis in 2018, the visit of Mother Teresa in 1993 and the pilgrimage from Knock to Rome in January 2020 are all included in this collection.
Knock Shrine features stunning artwork by internationally renowned artists. The Apparition Mosaic in the Basilica is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and photographs of the illustrator, PJ Lynch at work with the mosaic artists give an idea of the true scale of this magnificent piece. The artistic inspiration behind artworks such as the ‘Pilgrimage’ windows at the entrance halls to the Basilica and the new ‘Last Supper’ mural in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in the Basilica is revealed through quotes from the artists themselves, accompanied by wonderful images.
The Shrine is set in over 100 acres of impressive, landscaped gardens. Beautiful snapshots of Knock Shrine captured through each of the seasons by local photographer Sinéad Mallee, are combined with inspirational quotations. These stunning photographs capture the peace and tranquility that is to be found in quiet places throughout the grounds. The book also features photographs from well-known photographers such as Michael McLaughlin, Peter Moloney, Eamonn McCarthy, Conor McKeown, Wynne Photographic Collection and Maxwells.
This ‘coffee table’ style book is a thoroughly enjoyable read that showcases the unique peaceful, sacred atmosphere that continues to draw pilgrims and visitors to Knock. It will evoke many memories and is an ideal gift for friends and family, especially those who are away from home.
