Irish TV has produced a new half-hour documentary about pilgrimage to Knock Shrine.
Originally aired in late November, the documentary called KNOCK: A Pilgrimage of Faith was filmed over the summer in New York and at Ireland’s National Marian Shrine in Co Mayo.
The programme charts the historic first ever pilgrimage to Knock from the Archdiocese of New York, led by the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
The pilgrimage saw the first transatlantic flight operated by Aer Lingus to Ireland West Ireland Knock land on August 9, 2015 and the event was widely regarded as a hugely significant milestone for Knock Shrine, Ireland West Airport Knock and the western region in general.
The pilgrimage highlighted both the potential to bring more US visitors to the Marian Shrine at Knock and the potential to develop more chartered and scheduled flights between Ireland West Airport Knock and the US.
The new documentary features footage of the National Novena at Knock and interviews with pilgrims; as well as interviews with the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan; Rector of Knock Shrine Fr Richard Gibbons, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and chief executive of Aer Lingus Stephen Kavanagh.
