Join us for an intriguing history seminar with Prof. Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh, Dr. Nollaig Ó Muraíle and Tom Neary on Saturday the 3oth of November.
Using the recently installed ‘Knock miniature village model’ as the focal point, the seminar will explore all aspects of life in Ireland at the time of the Apparition in 1879, offering a fascinating insight into village life in Knock and the historical and social context of the Apparition. The seminar will end with a visit to the Museum to view the model.
Prof. Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh is Professor Emeritus in History and former Dean of Arts and Vice-President of NUI Galway. He was appointed to the Council by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins in 2012. Nollaig Ó Muraíle is an Irish scholar. He published an acclaimed edition of Dubhaltach Mac Fhirbhisigh’s Leabhar na nGenealach in 2004. He was admitted to the Royal Irish Academy in 2009. Tom Neary served as Chief Steward of The Knock Shrine Society for many years and is the author of many books and publications on the Knock Apparition.
